Here’s what you need to know

  • VILLAGE NURSERY

St Paul’s Walden is a superb pre-school for children aged 2 to 5, in an idyllic village setting.

  • FULLY QUALIFIED STAFF

All staff hold relevant childcare qualifications and regularly attend courses to update their knowledge and skills.

  • KEY PEOPLE

Our setting uses a key person approach. This means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom she/he is particularly responsible. Your child’s key person will be the person who works with you to make sure that what we provide is right for your child’s particular needs and interests. When your child first starts at the setting, she/he will help your child to settle and throughout your child’s time at the setting, she/he will help your child to benefit from the setting’s activities.

  • COMMITTEE LED GOVERNANCE

A management committee of parents administers the Pre-School. The committee is responsible for deciding Pre-School policies, determining fees and dealing with all behind the scenes administration.

  • EYFS CURRICULUM

We provide a rich and varied programme of activities and experiences that are appropriate to the children’s age and stage of development. At nursery, we continually observe, listen to and assess the children in our care. This enables us to record their achievements in each of the seven areas of learning as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

  • OFSTED RATED GOOD

We are proud and delighted to have received Good from Ofsted in December 2018.  View our report

Our Committee

St Paul’s Walden is parent led nursery, back up with a fantastic team of nursery staff doing the day to day work of looking after all the children.

The nursery sits at the heart of the community and is where many new additions to Whitwell and surrounding areas meet for the first time. We encourage all of the families who attend our setting to get involved in whatever way they can so that we can continue to offer this vital service to the community.

As parent led nursery the committee represent all of the families that attend. The committee is made up of current parent/carers as well as co-opted members from outside the nursery. The nursery cannot run without having a committee, so it is very important for us to keep the numbers of committee members up, the more the merrier!

Our Roles

Chair person

This role is often giving out to two people making co-chairs. It is their role to ensure committee meeting run smoothly, that everyone has a chance to participate and that any decisions the committee make are implemented. The chairs will often liaise with the nursery manager and ensure a smooth running of the nursery.

Our current Chair is Adam Pike

Secretary

The secretary of the committee deals with the committee admin including the organisation of committee meetings and the AGM, they are to draft the agendas of each meeting and send them out to all members.

Our current Secretary is Hattie Boreham

Treasurer

The treasurer is responsible for the nursery finances, which involves keeping an eye of the expenditure and income and liaising with the nursery manager when creating the yearly budgets.

Our current Treasurer is Esme Harvey
